Train With The Best in The World…

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Anyone who visits The Boston Crab or listens to our Podcasts knows that we rate our own Fergal Devitt as being one of the best wrestlers in the world at the moment, if not the best. It seems that everything he touches he can turn to gold and already has put on a handful of amazing contests this year and it’s only March! The former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion is doing his country proud, but with recent news from Fight Factory Pro Wrestling it’s clear that he hasn’t forgotten about us.

Fergal will be returning to our shores on April 2nd and 3rd for a weekend training seminar with FFPW. This is a huge opportunity for anyone interested in becoming a pro wrestler or for those already in the game that want to learn how to become even better. Usually these high profile sessions can cost an arm and a leg, making them tough for you and I to attend. However the whole weekend will cost an unbelievable €35, a shockingly low price!

Sessions run from 12-6 each day, and FFPW are willing to let people stay overnight in their gym. And for those of you who are newcomers to wrestling, there will be a special class with FFPW trainers on the Saturday for you from 12-2, so you’ll have the basics before joining the training with Fergal. There will also be a show from 6pm on the Sunday in the gym, and some of the weekends lucky trainees that impress will be asked to perform. This is an amazing opportunity for anyone interested in wrestling, and a foolish one to turn your nose to.

The Boston Crab will be there to take a bump or two, we hope to see you there too! For more information about the weekend and for securing your spot with a €10 deposit, email INFO@FIGHTFACTORYPROWRESTLING.COM. Places are limited so contact them now!

FFPW joins UEWA

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Irish based group Fight Factory Pro Wrestling has long been considered the breeding ground for some of the best talent to come out of this country. Just a quick glance at our Irish Top 30 supports this, with the vast majority of the top 10 either been trained in FFPW or have spent time with the group. Now FFPW has added even more strength to its name by becoming the first Irish wrestling group to join the Union of European Wrestling Alliances.

The UEWA is a Europe Wrestling Union, holding ten different  groups under it banner from nine different European countries. This move allows FFPW wrestlers easier access to showcase their skills abroad, as they now will have strong connections with some of the best wrestling groups in Europe. This is a huge opportunity for our local talent to showcase why we are building a reputation at turning out some of the best wrestlers globally, not just Europe.

Other groups which feature in the UEWA are:

- Association Biterroise De Catch (France)
- All Star Wrestling (England)
- Catch Wrestling Norddeutschland (Germany)
- Danish Pro Wrestling (Denmark)
- Fight Factory Pro Wrestling (Rep. Ireland)
- Italian Championship Wrestling (Italy)
- Norge Wrestling Foresund (Norway)
- Premier Bristish Wrestling (Scotland)
- Shooting Star Wrestling (England)
- Welsh Wrestling (Wales)

But with this comes another opportunity, as the UEWA also boasts The European Heavyweight Championship. This title is recognised by each member promotion as being the elite title in Europe, and for a wrestler to hold this belt is a huge honor. Now FFPW looks to send its best to Europe to try bring the belt to were it truly belongs.
The move also means that FFPW  have guaranteed  a spot in the 1st ever 8-man UEWA Cruiserweight Championship Tournament in Oslo on the 21st of May 2011 for one Irish wrestler. In response they will be holding a show on the 26th of march in their gym where theywill have a qualification match to see who will represent FFPW & Ireland in the tournament.

FFPW are having an open invitation to all trained wrestlers in Ireland that wish to be considered/complete for the spot in Oslo. Just E-mail info@fightfactoryprowrestling.com. All participants must be under 95kg/210 lbs.

A message from Seán

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Hi all, and thank you for checking out The Boston Crab. We have been a bit quiet for the last two months, but we getting back into the swing of things full force and are ready to make this website as great as it can be.

We are bringing more writers on board (two of which have already have pieces below this post that I recommend checking out) making our content is more fresh and up-to-date, ensuring that when you visit the website each day there will be something new for you. We also have been looking at the Podcast and are just about ready to bring the first episode of 2011 to air.

I also wanted to comment on the Irish wrestling scene. Ireland is a hot bed for wrestling talent, and I know this may be biased but I firmly believe that we have some of the finest wrestlers in Europe. We have one Irish man flying the flag for his country on Raw every week, and another in Japan who is currently rated as being one of the best junior heavyweights in the globe, if not the best. At home the talent is top class, and we recognise this. Therefore we are making a promise to every Irish company and every Irish wrestler that we will increase the coverage the Irish scene gets on this website. Our last few pieces were testing the waters to see if people would read something about Ireland, and the numbers are loud and clear: people are starting to wake up to what we have at home.

So to every promoter or wrestler, email us, let us know what we can do for you, and we will help. I know I have spoken to some of you in the past and you haven’t been forgotten. Today is the first step towards making the scene as big as it can be and deserves to be.

So thank you once again for checking our website out, and please support Irish wrestling.

DCW Kicking 2011 Off With A Bang

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

Since their debut show in the second half of 2010, Dublin Championship Wrestling have grown more and more with each show. The group have found themselves becoming one of the most talked about groups in the country, and it doesn’t look like they are going slow down in 2011. DCW have more and more shows planned for the up-coming year, and with each show that passes it’s becoming harder and harder to knock the group.

Back in November, they featured a match which The Boston Crab has dubbed the best match to take place on Irish soil in 2010. The Tables, Ladders and Chairs match between Thunder & Lighting taking on Tucker & Insano had the fans on their feet for the whole contest, with all four men pulling out all the stops and showing Ireland what they are made of. At the end of the match, Thunder & Lightning found themselves becoming the first DCW Tag-Team Champions. Since then they have defended their title against Insano & Lenny Hanna and new comers Tom Finnegan & Karl Brien. The two look like they will be holding onto their gold for a long time.

Danny Deans has emerged for than any other wrestler as the guy the fans are most behind in the company, and it hasn’t gone down well with DCW owners Ger Murphy and Dave Power. But despite everything that they have put infront of him, Danny has beaten the odds. At the December show, Deans faced off against three wrestlers in a gauntlet match (Featuring the DCW debut of Irish Top 30 entrant Working Class John) and yet still had his hand raised high at the end of the match.  We here at The Boston Crab have a feeling that Deans still isn’t out the woods yet with Murphy and Power, and 2011 might see him finally crumble to their consent attempts to deal with Deans for good.

2011 will kick off on January 29th with the Dublin City Rumble. One man who will be looking to do anything to win the Rumble is The Ballymun Bruiser, as it was announced that if he doesn’t win the rumble, his job in DCW will be gone. Combine this with the fact that his long time friend LA Warren turned on him at the last show, and there is a lot going through Bruisers mind. Will he remain focused and find himself winning the rumble? We hope so, and hopefully we’ll see you at the show on the 29th to find out.

The Dublin City Rumble will be at  the Good Counsel GAA Club Drimnagh Dublin 12. Doors are at 7.

DCW: “Paybacks a Bitch” Preview

Saturday, October 9th, 2010

One word springs to The Boston Crab’s mind when it thinks of the ending of Dublin Championship Wrestling’s debut show last month: Chaos.

The main event between Danny Deans and Andy Phoenix got interrupted by ring announcer Dave Power and John Jennings as they attacked Deans. Deans had a mountain placed ahead of him, that got taller and taller with each passing minute, as 50% Ger Murphy kept putting obstacles in Danny’s path. Power turning on Deans and revealing himself to be allied with Ger Murphy and declare himself the other 50% owner of the company was shocking. The night almost got worse as Power and Murphy went to light a Dublin flag on fire in the middle of the ring, but thankfully they were interrupted by local boys Thunder and Lighting along with Insano and Lenny Hanna. The owners got their way online though as they sent a message to the faces by setting the flag on fire at an undisclosed location. Now, Ger Murphy is looking for revenge as we head into this Fridays event, “Pay Backs a Bitch.”

On Friday 15th in the Sean O’ Casey Community Centre, East Wall, Dublin, Danny Deans with Thunder and Lighting are set to take on Andy Phoenix, John Jennings and Johnny Stash in a 6-man table’s match in the main event. Deans and the boys are looking to defend Dublin’s honour while Murphy hopes his men will keep them out of his own hair. Also Insano will be taking on Lenny Hanna. While both men will be going into this reluctantly, they both know how important wins are in DCW, so they’ll need to put their friendships aside, or it could cost them their jobs.

Ballymun Bruiser will be taking on Tucker. Bruiser last month left an impression on the DCW fans from the get go, arrogantly putting himself over as the man to beat in DCW at the start of the very first match in the company’s history. He may not have won the opening battle royal, but he did gain a victory over Irish Dragon. It may have been in due to outside interference, but a win is a win according to the record books. Bruiser will be looking to keep his momentum going at the price of Tucker’s head.

Vic Viper stunned the crowd as he turned up last month at Father Souls side and destroyed Kev Roxx in the ring. Kev has been looking for Viper and Souls next since, especially after Soul said some uncalled things to Roxx’s valet Laura. Now he has the chance as he faces both in a handicap match. The odds may be against the rocker but with a heart as big as his own and the DCW fans behind him, Kev still has every chance to claim a victory over his rivals.

Irish Dragon has been looking to get the chance to prove himself after loosing last month in the debut event. Ger Murphy and Dave Power have given Dragon another chance, but this time he has no idea who he will be facing. This places even more pressure on Dragon, but don’t count him out yet. Dragon is one of the top prospects in DCW and got a huge response at last months show, so he will be working twice as hard to ensure that he won’t let his fans down.

Tom Finnegan and Karl Brien made their Irish debut last month against Ireland’s youngest ever tag team champions Thunder & Lightning. They impressed DCW so much that they have been given another chance, despite their loss. However, they might not make it out of this one alive as they face Darren Holmes and the towering Lycan. This won’t be a walk in the park and could be the end for the new team.

DCW: Paybacks a Bitch looks to top their first sell-out show, so get to the Sean O’ Casey Community Centre on Friday the 15th of August early to ensure you don’t get turned away! Tickets are €10 and the show kicks off at 7:00PM. You’ll find The Boston Crab crew there once again so don’t forget to say hi to us!

Dublin Championship Wrestling Debut Preview

Sunday, September 12th, 2010

With a whirlwind of hype behind it, Ireland’s newest promotion, Dublin Championship Wrestling, is making its debut on Saturday September 18th in the Sean O’Casey Community Centre, East Wall, Dublin 3.

The group features some of the best talent this country has to offer and the card is already looking to offer a great night of action.

Danny “The Pain” Deans is going up against rival Andy Phoenix in an “East Wall Street Fight”, which looks to steal the entire show. Deans and Phoenix have made it no secret in the build up to this show that they are looking for each others blood, especially after Phoenix took out The Pain during a recent show.

“The Man With The Golden Can” The Ballymun Bruiser is taking on his old pupil The Irish Dragon. Bruiser claims that he knows Dragon’s weakness more than any other wrestler in the country, and hopes to teach him a lesson this weekend. But will The Irish Dragon beat his old teacher and make a bigger name for himself in the Irish wrestling scene? He will have a hard time doing so, but it’s safe to say Dragon will be giving it his all.

The rest of the card features a classic 15 man battle royal (Always a crowd pleaser at any event) and Insano & Lenny v Darren Holmes & Lycan in tag-team action. Other talent announced include Ireland’s youngest ever tag team Thunder & Lightning, Mountjoy John Jennings, “The Moonsault Maestro” Tucker and “The Glamrock Superstar” Kev Roxx. And of course, Ger Murphy, the 50% owner of the company, will be present, and will no doubt have something to say to the Dublin crowd, whether they want to hear it or not.

Bell time is 7pm at the Sean O’Casey Community Centre with tickets €10, and you can guarantee that The Boston Crab will be in attendance  to support Irish wrestling and we hope you will be too.
